The director of Did You Wonder Who Fired the Gun? shares his ten favorite films from the last ten years, sort of:

So, here’s my 10 of the last 10 years. I’m not arguing they are the best. I don’t really believe in that sort of ranking. I just mean they were the most significant films I encountered with regards to my own practice. Moreover, I should be clear, very few of the films come from the last ten years. But I think it’s only fair to include films I was able to see in the last ten years. Especially because I’d been trying to see a bunch of these films for literally decades but they were totally unavailable to me. Say, for example, Heynowski & Scheumann, whose films I’d sought since hearing about them from Santiago Alvarez in 1995. I was not disappointed. To say the least.

7. Milles Soleils (Mati Diop, 2013)

8. Black Film (Želimir Žilnik, 1971)

9. Borom Sarret (The Wagoner) (Ousmane Sembène, 1963)

10. Newsreel 63 – The Train of Shadows (Nika Autor and the Newsreel Front, 2017)

Bonus: the film I most wish to see but still haven’t succeeded in tracking down, now going on more than 20 years: Tercer Mundo, Tercera Guerra Mundial (Julio Garcia Espinosa, 1970).
