There are two works of genius, by Lars von Trier and Jordan Peele, and then a more idiosyncratic motley of films that have stayed with me because of a mood, or a performance (I love Christian Bale and, obviously, Steve Carell), or a particular sociological prescience, or a single moment (Flight), or for reasons too personal to explain.”
